THIRROUL scientist Nicolas Carlile is taking a leading role in an international fight to save the tiny, rare Bermuda petrel.
The Government of Bermuda has summoned Mr Carlile in a desperate bid to save the seabird, believed for three centuries to be extinct until a handful were found on a rocky, windswept outcrop in the Bermudas in the 1950s. Mr Carlile's task is a delicate one which could determine the species' ultimate fate.
