Boris Gelfand (undefeated) and Pentala Harikrishna tied for first place in the category 17 Grandmaster tournament in Bermuda last week.

Leading final scores in the Newcastle Open weekend tournament(36 players, seven rounds). 43 year old US master Pedro Paylado Tidoy JR (PHI) 2226 6.5, R. Scott (2264) and M. Illingworth (1839 aged 12) 5.5, S. Jurd (1731), E. Bautista (1870) and M. Yu (1859) 5. Tidoy won the first six rounds and drew ahard fought game against Andrew Bird in the final round. Illingworth lost to the winner in round two but beat Justin Tan (2257)and drew with Ronald Scott (2264) in his last two games.A weekend tournament for players rated below 2000 ACF will be held at Toukley RSL Club on 19-20th February. The North Sydney Leagues Club Championships in six divisions has attracted 74 players. Top seeds in the World Rated Title event are R. Goris (2192), G. Charles (2118), C. Ghenzer (2058) and P. Viner (2049).
